Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for not only what it represents,
but also for all the great eats!
November 2-3, 1966 snowstorm in Louisville. This was the 5th biggest snowstorm ever in Louisville with a total of 13.1 inches. I remember it very well. I had just landed at the Louisville airport after spending a year in Vietnam. I was dressed in my short sleeve khakis with no jacket. I almost froze to death.
October 18, 1993, FT. Knox, Ky. A man went on a shooting rampage Monday at a Ft. Knox training center, killing three Civil Service employees and wounding two others. The shooter was Arthur Hill of Radcliff, Ky., a 53-year-old Vietnam veteran with 20 years in the military and 11 years of civilian service as a base employee. He later shot himself at the Louisville VA Center. Civil Service employees killed were Paul Higdon, 49, of Louisville, Deborah Glenn, 36, and Wanda Simmons, 45, both of Rockhaven, Ky. Roger Saltsman and Judy Nemec were the two employees wounded.
I was in the building next to the shooting and had to go notify Paul Higdon's wife of the shooting.
I had an appointment with my arthritis doctor on my birthday (Oct 7) and he congratulated me on making it to 80. He said that he didn't think I would make it that old (neither did I).
60 years ago in Vietnam, I flew in the back seat of this F100f. It was quite a ride for 20 year old me.
I put up a sign going over my Man Cave a few years ago.
